Potholes No more!

There has been a lot, in the local newspapers and radio stations, about the potholes in the roads around Dullstroom. Over the past few years there have been some horrific car and bike accidents between Dullstroom and Lydenburg (Mashishing) , and Dullstroom and Belfast. To highlight the state of affairs someone in Lydenburg took a picture of a man catching a trout in a pothole on the main tar road and submitted it to the newspaper. That's how big the pothole was !  It was rumoured that some tour operators were going stop coming to Dullstroom because of the state of the roads.

Good News! In the last 2 days I have been from Lydenburg and Belfast from Dullstroom, and there are no potholes to be seen. This morning ( Saturday!) the last of the potholes were being filled by the Roads Department, halfway bewteen Belfast and Dullstroom.

Ladies Fly Fishing Festival

This week-end Dullstroom will be hosting the yearly "Ladies Fly Fishing Festival". Last year there were 30 ladies in the festival and this year the organisers have extended the number of entrants to 40. All 40 places have been taken up. The celebrity "fisher people" are Riaan Venter ( Die Nutsman), his wife Michelle Garforth-Venter and Edith Venter. The ladies come from as far afield as Cape Town, Durban and Bloemfontein to attend the event. Last year a local Dullstroom lady caught 20 trout in one morning! Proceeds from the Festival go to a local charity.
